About
Commissioned by the Safe & Together Institute, I created a series of original comic illustrations for Stop Blaming Mothers and Ignoring Fathers by David Mandel, an internationally distributed publication supporting professionals and survivors working within the field of domestic violence.
My role involved transforming complex domestic violence frameworks, survivor experiences, and professional case studies into accessible visual narratives. I developed the comic illustrations from script to final artwork, creating original characters, environments, and sequential scenes that communicated sensitive themes with empathy, clarity, and emotional depth.
The publication challenges entrenched myths that place responsibility on mothers for the impact of abuse while overlooking the behaviours and accountability of perpetrators. Through visual storytelling, my work helped make these difficult conversations more accessible to practitioners, educators, and survivors worldwide.
The book has achieved international reach, with more than 3,000 copies sold and translations into Dutch and Japanese, extending the impact of the illustrations across multiple countries and cultural contexts.
This project reflects my wider illustration practice: using character design and narrative art as a powerful medium to communicate complex social issues, influence understanding, and drive meaningful change.
